The preview fills a desktop screen On a computer, the dashboard preview now uses the full width of the window: the morning brief in one row, a taller map beside Latest reporting, and all the cameras in a wall under the map, grouped by area (South, Central, West and North Marin, then the 101 traffic cams). Sections are always open on desktop. Phones and tablets are unchanged, and so are the regular dashboard and TV.

Getting around in the preview: airports, roads and transit The dashboard preview’s Getting Around section now answers three questions: is SFO or OAK delayed (FAA), is anything listed on Marin roads or the main routes to the airports (101, 19th Ave, 280 and 380 to SFO; 580, 80 and 880 to OAK, from 511), and what transit alerts 511 lists (Marin Transit’s, plus any for Golden Gate, SMART or the Angel Island ferry, each with a link to the agency’s own alerts page). Each part says how fresh it is and never claims an all-clear it can’t back up. A “Getting around” link under the morning brief jumps to it. The regular dashboard and TV are unchanged.

Preview travel section built, not yet shown Behind the scenes: the preview’s Getting Around section is built — airports, roads to SFO and OAK, and Marin transit — and it only says “no delays” or “no alerts” when the reading behind it is complete and current. It isn’t on the page yet.

Preview temperature stops going blank The preview’s weather card was sometimes saying “Temperature unknown” because the weather service’s newest report hadn’t been checked yet. It now shows the most recent usable reading from Gnoss Field from the last hour and a half, with its own time. If there isn’t one, it still says so, or marks an older reading out of date. The regular dashboard and TV are unchanged.

Ridge and traffic cams in the preview The dashboard preview now opens with a row of live cameras right under the morning brief: the ALERTCalifornia ridge cams first (Mt. Tam, Wolfback, Big Rock, Barnabe, Burdell and more), then the Caltrans cams on 101. Swipe the row on a phone; on a computer use the arrows. A camera that isn’t sending pictures says so instead of showing a broken image, traffic cams say how old their picture is, and tapping a camera opens its full-size picture. The regular dashboard and TV are unchanged.

Getting the preview’s cameras ready Behind the scenes: the dashboard preview gets the pieces for a row of live cameras — ridge cams first, then 101 — that only shows a picture once it has fully loaded and only says how old a picture is when the camera itself says so. Nothing changes on screen yet.

Preview map stops crying wolf The dashboard preview’s map used to say Fix It Marin (311) and USGS earthquakes were “unverified” even when both had loaded fine. Now it checks how old each one’s data really is, and only warns when something is out of date or its age is unknown. A pin kept after a failed refresh says from what time. The regular dashboard and TV are unchanged.

Preview map fits phones better On phones the dashboard preview’s map is a little shorter and its Expand button sits on the map’s corner, so the latest stories start higher on the screen. A town with no stories now says so even when another map source is down, and names the source that failed. The regular dashboard is unchanged.

No keyword alerts in the preview A new automatic check makes sure the dashboard preview never treats a story as an alert just because it contains a word like “fire”. Only official weather advisories appear as alerts there. The regular dashboard is unchanged.

Preview map and latest reporting The dashboard preview now shows the map next to the five latest dated stories, each with its source, how long ago it was published, and whether it is about your town or county-wide. On phones the map is a small preview you can expand, and swiping over it scrolls the page. Tapping a pin opens its story without changing your town, ordinary stories never show up as alerts, and anything kept from an earlier refresh is dimmed and says from when. Airport status you can trust A closure now shows as Closed only while it is in effect; one announced for later is listed as scheduled, with its times. Deicing appears as its own notice. Times read in Pacific time (“Until Oct 1, 7:59 PM PDT”). If the FAA feed can’t be read cleanly, or a refresh fails, the panel and the map pins say the status is unknown rather than leaving On Time showing.

Airport delays show up again The airport panel now reads the FAA feed correctly: ground stops, ground delay programs, arrival and departure delays and closures appear with their cause and minutes, instead of every airport reading On Time. If the FAA can’t be reached, the panel says the status is unavailable rather than showing On Time.

Preview morning brief The dashboard preview now opens with a morning brief: the temperature observed at Gnoss Field, today’s chance of rain for your forecast area, the next tide with its station, and a shortcut to traffic cams. Weather advisories for Marin’s zones appear with their area and end time and leave on time; if they can’t be checked, it says so. A source-health button lists any data source that is out of date. Belvedere moves to civic news Belvedere items no longer appear in Police Logs: they were city announcements, not police calls. City of Belvedere news now comes from its official feed in the Civic column. Belvedere does not publish a public police call log that we could find.
